Make the Windows 8 Start Screen Your Own
Windows 8 is a lot better than Windows 7 in allowing to you customize the look of your screen.  First we'll look at customizing the Lock screen including status notifications. You can use one of their built-in pictures, one of your own or browse Bing and other locations to get pictures. We've also included the specifications for their size.

You can also specify which applications show status on the screen and choose one for detailed status
