Well, there's been a bunch of news about WhatsApp, the messaging program that Facebook bought for 19 BILLION dollars.
Yes, 19 BILLION. Why? Because it boasts a user base of 450 million Active users. Activity is important, especially since there is a unknown percentage of Facebook users that don't actively use Facebook. The idea is to bring people to Facebook to see ads. Period.
But in any case, WhatsApp is a great messaging program that does one thing, but does it extremely well.
It bypasses your service provider (ATT. Verizon. etc) and sends messages through WhatsApp systems. Instead of having a texting package, you can ignore the built-in messaging on your phone and use WhatsApp to set and receive text messages.
And even better, you can attach documents, pictures and even voice messages.
The only downside is that it is only free for the first year, then it is a whopping .99 cents per year. Of course, that's right now. With Facebook at the new owner, that charge could go higher or disappear. But I doubt if it will become completely free. What company would throw away a $450 million income per year.!!!
